Llanhilleth achieve double over Blackwood
A short journey for us & arrived at the ground early.Lost Chris Haggerty to the 2nd's & sub replacement Andrew Gane was ready to play.
Unfortunately lost the toss & we were put into bat on a wicket that was playing up.Opened with Dirk Daniels & Tom Darling with Tom loosing his wicket early on giving an outside edge to the slips. In came Richard Blake who had a peach of a ball having previosly received two balls that swung away the third cut back in hitting his pad before hitting the wickets.Ashley Baker was to follow & was looking comfortable before being caught at cover for 8.
In came Tom Gane who batted superbly scoring 23 in a partnership of 46 before also being caught.Unfortunately the rest of the batting did not last long getting a target of 112 for 8 with the skipper carrying is bat for 48 not out.
After tea opened with a new combination of Nick Hurley first game for 4 years & Richard Blake (6-1-21-0). Both bowled well without taking any wickets, with Nick coming off after 4 overs exhausted.(4-1-5-0).
Then brought on the senior bowling pro's G.Ford (6-1-31-1) & J.Baker (6-0-17-1)with both taking a wicket each, in thier spells. The next pair to bowl were the youngsters Tom Gane (4-0-15-0) & P.Baker (3-0-15-1) with patrick taking one wicket before Llanhilleth reached thier target in 23rd over.Thier skipper getting a good 58 not out to win the game.Lanhileth are top of the league & we were short of bowling to compete more effectively although we fielded & bowled well the batting let us down.
MOTM A close call between the skipper & Tom Gane but
Tom wins for batting superbly.
