Catches win matches-no honestly they do
What a difference a few overs can make to a game.
Rocked up at Pentyrch and after looking looking at a few damp parts to the track decided to insert them into bat (yes a 4th toss won on the spin).
Looked a dodgy decision as their young Brynteg prodigy Wadlan set about his innings in brutal if not classy style, with a series of lusty blows. However it was Dusty White who took the first wicket of his one's career to get their opener out.
Then the shock of all shocks, i actually bowled someone with a devilish inducker at around 91 mph that snicked the off bail. Then opener Wadlan fell for the old chestnut, half volley, drop the midoff back and wait for catching practice (it actually worked). Danny then produced a msterclass to run out their gaffer and the Tyrchs were in trouble at 51-4. That soon got worse as Wills produced another classy display of leggies and wrong 'uns, ably supported by the miserly Danny who opened his account for the year.
At 90-8 it seemed a comfortable victory was on the cards but then we decided to press self-destruct and dropped 4 catches (some tough and others hmm) and they managed to get to 184-9, thanks to 60 from the Lords fella-should lead to a discount off kit.
184-9 was surely in our range cos we have had some great starts this year, thats all we needed really, 4-2 off 5 overs not quite that. Dicky and the ever reliable Evo tried to rebuild before Dicky got bowled by some quality bowling from their legendary spinner. Enter the gaffer in his last innings and could he lead the boys to victory? It looked that way for a while (10 mins maybe)after a few boundaries but got too excited and got stumped-village.
Evo soon departed for a gallant 30 and the rest of the lads could offer Danny no support and so we ended up a gutting 90 all out. However the changing room vibe was good as the lads had a beer to celebrate the end of an era-much appreciated too fellas and nice choice with the Carling!!!
MOM: Me 2-29 and 19 and i am so biased.
TFC: Plenty to choose from in top order.
FSS (feel so sorry): Grubby who had 4 catches dropped in slips (is this 1992).
Roll on next week and lets turn over the townies!!!
